About Alternatives '20: Art House
About the show:
Alternatives'20: Art House is a Pafa Graduate Community Exhibition created in collaboration with the MFA Exhibitions Committee (Ashley Garner and Neill Catangay), Dr. Kevin Richards and Addison Namnoum of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. This online project was created out of the necessity to connect artists and their practices with the community in this challenging time of quarantine and uncertainty. Along with the rest of the world, many artists have had their lives and art practices turned upside down. We wanted to create a space to celebrate artwork in all stages of production. Students and faculty from Pafa’s MFA program were encouraged to submit images that either show them working, in-progress work, work spaces, finished projects displayed in non-traditional and unconventional spaces, and everything in-between.

A Note from the Project Managers:
The "Art House " format for the show was created upon seeing the work submitted. Seeing the work that everyone is making right now was an inspiration to tell a story. We wanted to pay attention to the stories within the work and connect them to our current domestic situations and use that as a platform for the show design. Putting everyone in the same house virtually is a way for us to share the same space while physically apart. This exhibition will exist as a time capsule and a reminder of our perseverance and ability to support one another both as artists and as human beings amid a global pandemic. Artists never give up. We create hope, write history, create community, create culture, create solutions, and we do it all with passion. The work in this show demonstrates strong minds, passionate hearts, and a congregation of community from afar.

LOCATION
Welcome!
“PA” and “FA” have been helping Resident Director and Student Life Coordinator Katherine Volpe spread cheer to students and faculty through email for quite some time now! They wanted to be here to congratulate the Grad Community and help everyone navigate the show!
You can navigate the show by clicking on rooms from the House Map below, or you can enter via the Entrance (suggested; but you can start in any room) and walk your way through the house via directional buttons once you’re inside. Just look for “PA” and “FA” when searching for the navigation buttons! They are always there to point you in the right direction.
